Term: Data Protection Officer (DPO)
A data protection officer (DPO) is a person who works for a company or organization and makes sure that they are following the rules about how to handle personal information.
The DPO has to be really knowledgeable about these rules and is responsible for things like talking to the authorities that enforce the rules, figuring out if the company is taking any risks with people’s information, and giving advice to the company about how to follow the rules better. In some cases, it is required by law for a company to have a DPO.
