Term: De-identification

De-identification is the process of removing or changing information in such a way that it can no longer identify an individual person.

This can be important to protect someone’s privacy when their personal data is being used for research or other purposes. De-identified data can still be useful for statistical analysis and other purposes, but it can’t be used to identify a specific person.
